He spoke before the race had been called in Wisconsin, but after news reports projected that Mitt Romney would win Maryland and Washington, DC.
Santorum reminded supporters at a Mars, Pennsylvania, hotel that, as of tonight, half of the delegates have been assigned, calling tonight "halftime," and telling the audience that "everyone deserves to be heard."
He sought to draw contrasts between himself and Mitt Romney on the health care and social issues, two topics that have driven his stump speech in recent weeks. He warned voters that the Republican establishment would seek to run to the middle in order to secure a general election victory, but that he thought he could draw voters from the middle to his conservative positions.
"You know me," he told his home-state supporters. "The clock starts tonight."
Pennsylvania holds it's primary in three weeks, along with New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware.
The former Pennsylvania Senator came in a distant second in Maryland to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. He was not on the ballot in Washington, DC. Shortly after Rick Santorum spoke, news reports declared Mitt Romney the winner in Wisconsin.
