First Lady Gives Keynote at CBC Dinner

WASHINGTON, DC
Saturday, September 22, 2012

First Lady Michelle Obama will address the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) 42nd Annual Phoenix Awards Dinner on Saturday.
She remarked on the upcoming Presidential election and issues surrounding the economy. Mrs. Obama also spoke on matters related to this year’s conference theme,Inspiring Leaders and Building Generations. She highlighted the struggles of black leaders to ensure that their people could vote and urged current leaders to continue that fight.
According to the organization's website, the annual conference "brings together policy-makers, educators, business and industry leaders, celebrities, media, emerging leaders and everyday Americans to discuss and solve issues that are important to all Americans.”  Earlier in the week, the conference covered a variety of events ranging from speeches by top leaders to voter identification laws.

The dinner is held each year as part of the foundation's annual legislative conference to honor African-Americans who had made significant contributions to society.
