Herman Cain: Ease Up On The Nasty
Appearing on Fox News this evening, Herman Cain advised the remaining candidates in the Republican field to tone down the nastiness or risk an enthusiasm gap against Obama in the fall.
-- Sam Stein
I don't like the infighting. And the people who say that it's going to make the eventual nominee stronger, I don't think so. Because what this infighting has done is it has diminished a lot of the voter enthusiasm. All you have got to do is look at what happened in some of these previous primaries. The voter turnout was down. And I think it's expected that the voter turnout is going to be down for some of the caucuses. The infighting, I believe, has a negative effect on enthusiasm which is why whoever gets the nomination, Sean [Hannity], is going to be an uphill battle to get people re-energized and reengaged for the Republican nominee. That is going to be the big uphill battle. This would be a logical thing to say for an unaffiliated Republican figure. But Cain is, technically at least, a Gingrich supporter. And his call for civility kind of cuts down the former House speaker's argument that he's got to fight Romney's attacks with counter-attacks.

The Hill caught Rudy Giuliani on Fox criticizing two of the frontrunners for the Republican nomination:
-- Ariel Edwards-Levy
The attacks that offended me the most was when Romney became a Democrat to attack Newt and when Newt became a Democrat to attack Romney. I think attacking Romney over Bain -- stupid, dumb, and you sound like a Democrat. And attacking Newt over what went on in Congress, which was a Democratic plot to get back at him because of what he did to Wright, was like acting like a Democrat. What the heck are we doing that for?You can watch the video, starting at about 3:30, here.
