Newt Gingrich paving the way for -- Ron Paul?

  -

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says that he's still in it, that he's still a Republican presidential candidate, despite his campaign staff quitting him all over the place. For the sake of the hypothetical, we asked MSNBC political analyst Richard Wolffe who would benefit from the beleaguered Mr. Gingrich dropping out. "I don't think any of the current field does," Mr. Wolffe told us.
The herd betting on the GOP nomination at Intrade would seem to agree. Mr. Gingrich's very tough day -- chart above -- looks to have been very little help to anyone who's actually in the race. One exception: Ron Paul, who says the Republican Party is going his way, and who may have a point.
But check out the bounce for the undeclared Rudy Giuliani (sorry for all-day typo -- fix in itals).
