WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Finance and Budget committees, today issued the following statement regarding the Labor Department’s February jobs report indicating the national unemployment rate has dropped to 8.9 percent:
“While millions of Americans are still searching for jobs, today’s employment report may be a sign that this bleak period of joblessness is making a turn for the better. The creation of any new jobs is good, but it is still not good enough for the 8.9 percent of Americans who are out of work. The President promised two years ago his trillion-dollar stimulus would keep unemployment below 8 percent, and we’ve yet to see that fulfilled. The President must now work with us to cut spending, stop borrowing, and reduce bureaucratic over-regulation that is stifling job creation.”

WASHINGTON –
Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement today:
“While today’s job numbers are encouraging, unfortunately unemployment continues to remain unacceptably high. Like so many other issues, we have yet to see the leadership we need coming out of the White House to restore sustainable economic growth. While spending taxpayers’ dollars hand over fist, Barack Obama has failed to address our nation’s long-term fiscal health. Frankly, if the answer doesn’t involve more spending, this Administration is simply out of solutions. The status quo isn’t working for the millions of Americans still looking for work and it’s time for a better solution. Republicans nationwide are putting forth fiscally responsible reforms that will promote job creation only to face budgetary gimmickry and outright obstruction from Democrats. After two years in office and billions of tax dollars spent, it’s time for Barack Obama to turn his rhetoric into action, put the spending aside, and work with Republicans on solutions that will put America back on a path to prosperity.”
