President Obama remarks on Egypt
President Obama spoke briefly on the situation in Egypt at the White House today. Later in his final briefing, Press Secretary Gibbs is expected to discuss Egypt from the White House.
Earlier today, the Vice President of Egypt announced on Egyptian state run television that Hosni Mubarak has stepped down as President of Egypt. Mubarak and his family have left Cairo for a palace outside of the city. It is reported that power has been transferred to the armed forces.
Large rallies have continued in cities all around Egypt.

President Obama spoke about Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's resignation after 18 days of anti-government protests and revolution. Saying that "the wheel of history has turned at a blinding pace," he called for continued reform from the new military leadership and vowed to provide aid for the transition to democratic rule if asked.
