Sessions Formally Selected as GOP Leader on Budget
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) was officially chosen by his Senate colleagues today as the Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee. Sessions released the following remarks:

“I am honored to have been chosen for this position and am eager to address the serious financial challenges facing our nation. Our budget is in a state of distress. New projections show that in a matter of months our nation’s gross debt will equal the size of our whole economy.  Forty cents of every dollar we spend is borrowed.  By the end of the decade, the interest on our debt alone will exceed the cost of the entire military budget.”

“The path we are on is unsustainable. We cannot continue to spend what we don’t have and borrow what we cannot pay back. We must change course.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, to achieve significant reforms and to put this nation back on the right financial path. Government has grown too large and too expensive – blocking economic growth and burdening our children with a terrible debt. Strong, sustained reductions in spending may not be easy, but they are the only responsible course –and the only one that leads to a better future.”

Sessions’ other committee assignments are Armed Services, Judiciary, and Environment and Public Works. Subcommittee assignments, once confirmed, will be announced at a later date.
