  Did you watch? I think Pres Obama is right to challenge our schools to do better. Now is the time for real, substantive changes. If we want to win the future and our country to prosper, we can't wait any longer. Real education reform will mean more community involvement, more parental involvement, buy-in from teachers and less prescription from the federal level - without losing accountability. Your thoughts?

It will require actually compensating talented, quality, dedicated educators at a level that approaches embarrassing instead of the current unsustainable level of disrespectful! You also have to restore and then improve necessary and vital services in our public schools to support our student's pursuit of a quality education!       Oliver Isaac Scott Pay teachers more so that education jobs attract even greater talent than they do now. Pay for it by eliminating a lot of the administrators that never come into contact with children/students. Make teaching a clinical profession where the practitioners define the best practices theory. Do those things, and watch our education system return to the heights that it used to be.

      Susana Fajardo What about some sort of form? I know a lot of parents miss parent/teacher conferences or parent nights because they occur during work. What if there was a transfer of power form for that meeting. Parents could sign it so that someone else, like a friend or grandparent, could go in their place. That way someone is being kept up on the student's progress and a child's community is still involved.

I taught American History and the basic elements of our constitution at Martinez jr. High from1966 to 2001. Im retired, but I want to pay more taxes for schools at the local level.
