Cantor elected next House Majority Leader

By Molly K. Hooper - 11/17/10 03:26 PM ET

The House Republican conference unanimously elected Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to be the House Majority Leader in the 112th Congress.

As expected, Cantor, who ran in an uncontested race, will remain at the No. 2 ranked GOP leadership position.

South Carolina Rep.-elect Tim Scott, one of the two African-American newly elected Republican members, gave Cantor's nomination speech. Scott is expected to join Cantor at the leadership table as one of the two freshman class liaisons.

The nomination was seconded by West Virginia Republican Rep. Shelley Moore-Capito.
