Politicians Look at the Jewish Vote & Campaign 2012

NEW YORK, NY
Sunday, September 23, 2012

Fordham University hosted a conference on the impact of the Jewish vote in American politics. The David Wayman Institute for Holocaust Studies sponsored its tenth national conference titled,"The Jewish Vote, the Holocaust and Israel."
In the first session, the topic is "Two Bush Administrations and the Jewish Vote." Debaters included Dr. Tevi Troy, the liaison to the Jewish community for former President George W. Bush, and Hank Sheinkopf, an advisor to former President Bill Clinton.
In the second session, former Mayor Edward Koch (D) and Rep. Bob Turner (R-NY), discussed the Jewish vote and Campaign 2012. In 1980, Mayor Koch was instrumental in convincing Jewish voters to reject then-President Jimmy Carter and to throw their support behind Ronald Reagan. In 2011, Koch played a pivotal role in turning New York voters away from Rep. Anthony Weiner (D) and electing Turner, a Republican.
Prof. Thane Rosenbaum offered commentary on the discussion.
