My Home State Florida FREEZE WARNING Yikes

Freeze Warning, Wind Chill Warning
Statement as of 5:47 AM EST on December 13, 2010

... Freeze warning in effect from 11 PM this evening to 9 am EST
Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a freeze
warning... which is in effect from 11 PM this evening to 9 am EST
Tuesday.

A strong southward surge of a very cold and dry Arctic air mass
will occur across South Florida overnight. Air temperatures will
fall into the 30 to 32 degree range across the warning area by 11
PM tonight... and will persist in this range through mid-morning
Tuesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or
highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other
sensitive vegetation.

518 am EST Mon Dec 13 2010

... Wind chill warning in effect from 7 PM this evening to 10 am
EST Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a wind chill
warning... which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 10 am EST
Tuesday.

The combination of unusually cold air temperatures for South
Florida... and moderate to strong northwest winds in the wake of
a strong Arctic frontal passage will result in very low wind chill
readings for all of South Florida tonight. Wind chills will
generally range from 15-20 degrees in the lake region to 20-25
degrees across the remainder of the Mainland.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A wind chill warning means dangerously low wind chill values of 25
or colder are expected. Appropriate action should be taken to
ensure that outdoor pets have adequate protection from the cold
temperatures. The elderly and the homeless are also especially
vulnerable to the cold. If precautions are not taken... these
conditions may result in hypothermia.

Fire Weather Warning
Statement as of 8:54 AM EST on December 13, 2010

... Red flag warning in effect from 9 am to 7 PM EST Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a red flag
warning... which is in effect from 9 am to 7 PM EST Tuesday. The
Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

Highly unseasonable cold and dry Arctic air will continue to move
into the local area today... overnight and into Tuesday. Widespread
red flag conditions are expected as relative humidity values will
range from 20 to 30 percent. A Fire Weather Watch is also in
effect for all zones Wednesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create explosive fire growth potential.
